Many overused or poorly constructed fields can be brought back to tournament-level condition with appropriate care. Championship Turf Services can repair worn or compacted areas, correct drainage or grading
problems, and provide a variety of surface treatments — including aerification, topdressing and overseeding — to bring new life to existing fields.
- Renovation — Radical steps for the field that needs a fresh start
- Rejuvenation — A variety of measures to awaken the tired field
- Repair — Revival of worn crowns, goal creases, and damaged infields

Stripping existing vegetation

Finished field, 13 days after sod installation
|
Problem:
Primary game football field suffered from uneven grade, with turf composed of 70 percent native bentgrass. In Fall of 2001, a significant injury to an athlete underscored the need to address turf problems.
Solution:
After 2002 Commencement, glyphosphate was applied to kill existing vegetation. Championship Turf Services then stripped the dead turf, cultivated and laser leveled the field to a one-half percent grade from sideline to sideline. Field was then sodded. Championship Turf Services also improved the grade around track and field event areas. Play commenced in mid-September.

Defining infield prior to placing materials

Finishing base panels
|
Problem:
Over the years, the infield was raised approximately one foot higher than the outfield through various applications of clay and topsoil. The addition of N.E.C.B.L. Torrington Twisters required field improvements to be made before inaugural season.
Solution:
Reconstruction began with stripping and stockpiling of topsoil and removal of clay from infield and side panel areas. Subgrade was lowered six inches below existing outfield grass and laser graded with a bulldozer. Home plate and baselines were realigned to allow more distance down the foul lines and to parallel existing bleachers. Six inches of topsoil were then spread in all turf areas, while the skinned areas received a three-inch sand base and three-inch infield mix. All disturbed areas were then laser graded with a boxscraper. Sod was installed and the job completed 30 calendar days after groundbreaking. Championship Turf Services also installed a stone dust warning track prior to completion of new outfield fencing.
